Water sports in Les Saintes Archipelago
Les Saintes Archipelago, the ideal place for Water sports lovers
The beautiful archipelago of Les Saintes is the perfect spot to experience Water sports. Located within the trade wind belt, it has a lovely and healthy subtropical climate.
Each year, a bunch of tourists are attracted to Les Saintes Archipelago thanks to the pleasant environment and scenery. If you are water-sports lover, you won’t be disappointed as there are several options in terms of Water sports activities.
From surface Water sports, undersea exploration or renting a boat, here are some activities you can do over there:
Surface Water sports (Board sports)
When you are kitesurfing, you stand up on a surfboard holding onto a designed kite and use the wind for propulsion. The best kitesurfing sites are located in Terre-de-Haut where you can also find Les Saintes Bay.
Grande Anse’s beach is a beautiful place to practise the activity as the direction of the wind is more optimal. The windiest period to enjoy is from December to April. I highly recommend Caribean Kite School and CBCM Boarder Club if you want to find out more about the sport. They have multiple packages on offer.
Windsurfing is a form of sailing. Basically, you move along the surface of the sea on a long board with a sail on it. The board is powered across the water by the wind. Les Saintes Archipelago is a great place to windsurf under optimal conditions, thanks to the trade wind and warm water reaching 28°C most of the time.
UCPA Club is specialised in Water sports activities in continental France as well as French overseas islands. The sport club proposes 5 days of windsurf lessons in Les Saintes Archipelago, available for people from 18 to 55 years old.
Another popular surface Water sport is wakeboarding. Usually, the rider is on a short surfboard while holding a rope towed by a motorboat. Because the wakeboarder is pulled along through the water, the motorboat goes at a speed of 18 to 25 mph maximum.
This activity is quite spectacular but also challenging as the rider does perform acrobatic feats. He always needs to use technical tricks to improve his performance along the way. I suggest you to get in touch with CBCM Boarder Club if you want to give wakeboarding a go when visiting the archipelago.
- Stand up paddle surfing
Stand Up Paddle surfing also known as SUP is part of the multiple trendy Water sports in Les Saintes Archipelago. Stand up paddle boarders stand on their boards and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water. Clear Blue Caraïbes an Eco-Water sports centre came up with an innovative concept: Transparent bottom inflatable paddle board. The bottom will allow you to have a crystal clear view of the underwater world.
Scuba diving is one of the most famous Water sports activities in the archipelago, thanks to the amazing and diversified marine wildlife. Coral fishes, crustaceans, molluscs and shells are part of the big variety sheltered in Les Saintes Archipelago’s undersea.
There are over 10 colourful spots to explore. The most famous is Le Sec Paté which is considered as one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean. La Pointe Gouvernail is another stunning diving site full of life. Last but not least, I want to highlight one more popular site called Gros Cap. Over there, there is an extensive array of aquatic animals as well as the biggest turtles ever seen in Les Saintes Archipelago.
On the list of Water sports I am calling Kayaking. This physical activity is as worthy as the ones previously mentioned. Kayakers hand grip their double-bladed paddles in the middle, pull the blade through the water on alternate sides and propel themselves forward.
If you are looking for a learning centre to practise kayaking, Clear Blue Caraïbes is the place to go. As a matter of fact, you will be able to ride crystal clear kayaks on crystal clear waters thanks to the Molokini. This transparent kayak will enable you to admire the underwater world.
If you want to enjoy an incredible sailing holiday while visiting Les Saintes Archipelago, you can rent a boat. Whether you have an internationally recognised boat licence or want to book a skipper with your boat, Gwada Marine will entirely assist you.
Although, the departures are initially done in Riviere-Sens Marina or Pointe-à-Pitre , there is also one from Terre de Haut available on request. The different types of boats are well equipped and perfectly maintained.
